The History of Yoder Homes

Yoder Homes was founded in 2005 by Denny Yoder, whose passion for building began in a Mennonite household in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Raised in a culture that emphasized hard work, humility, and craftsmanship, Denny carried those values into every aspect of his professional life. With degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering, he worked for GE while building homes in New Mexico, eventually returning to Indiana to join the family construction business.

Over nearly two decades, Denny helped build more than 1,000 homes and develop over 500 residential lots. After years of family trips to Sarasota, the Yoders made the move permanent and launched Yoder Homes—initially focused on condo renovations. What began as a small remodeling company quickly grew into a full-service design-build firm known for quality, care, and a seamless building experience.

Now employing a team of over 18 and generating upwards of $20 million in annual sales, Yoder Homes continues to thrive. In 2022, Denny passed leadership to Kevin Archer, who now serves as President and co-owner. Kevin brings a strong construction background and a shared dedication to integrity, community, and exceptional workmanship.

Together with his wife Crystal and their blended family of eight children, Kevin leads with energy, heart, and a clear vision for the future—expanding the company to offer semi-custom new builds and accessible options for families across Florida’s west coast.

Our Story: A Timeline

 

In the Beginning: Denny’s Foundation in Building

Denny Yoder’s journey started in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where growing up in a Mennonite household instilled a deep appreciation for faith, community, and the value of honest work. After earning degrees in Civil and Mechanical Engineering, he joined GE and began building homes on the side in New Mexico. The draw of homebuilding—and the satisfaction it brought—led him back to Indiana to join the family business. Over the next 18 years, Denny helped build over 1,000 homes and played a key role in developing neighborhoods across the region. Frequent trips to Sarasota inspired a bold move, and in 2005, Yoder Homes was born, offering thoughtful renovation work that quickly earned a loyal following.

The Next Chapter: Kevin’s Vision and Expansion

When Denny transitioned into an advisory role in 2022, Kevin Archer stepped in as President and later became co-owner. With a lifelong connection to construction and a leadership style rooted in family values, Kevin was a natural fit to carry the company forward. His vision includes honoring the legacy Denny built while evolving to meet the needs of today’s homeowners. Under his leadership, Yoder Homes has expanded to include semi-custom new homes and more affordable options—making quality design and construction accessible to more families along Florida’s west coast. Backed by a dedicated team and trusted trade partners, Yoder Homes continues to grow with purpose and passion.

very first meeting to the completion of your dream project, our goal is to exceed your
expectations by delivering a quality product on time and within your budget.

Initial Meeting

Our process begins with a relaxed, in-depth consultation where we learn about your vision, goals, lifestyle needs, and overall investment range. This conversation helps us understand not just what you want to build, but how you want your home to live and feel. If the scope is clearly defined, we will prepare a preliminary budget range to ensure the project aligns with your expectations from the very beginning. This early clarity allows us to move forward with confidence, transparency, and a shared understanding of the path ahead.

Design Development

If the scope of work is simple and well-defined, in most cases, a formal proposal can be produced, and the process moves directly onto contract documents. For more complex projects—including custom homes—a design agreement is required. With a design agreement in place, we work collaboratively with you and the designer to refine the scope of work and align it with your vision and budget. Once the scope is finalized, preliminary floor plans and schematic drawings are developed, incorporating structural, mechanical, and applicable planning requirements. The design is refined through your feedback until final approval and sign-off.

Bid Phase

Once design is complete, your plans move into engineering and then out to our trusted trade partners for thorough, competitive bidding. This process allows us to secure the best value while selecting the most qualified trades for your specific project.

With real pricing in hand, we present a comprehensive fixed-cost proposal — not an open-ended estimate. By the time your contract is signed, the numbers are clear, the team is aligned, and you can move into construction with confidence and no surprises.

Contract Documents

Upon acceptance of the proposal, a construction contract is prepared and signed, defining the terms of the agreement and a schedule of the progress payments.

Construction

Once all construction permits are procured, our project manager and skilled construction team diligently work together to deliver a pleasurable building process and quality end product. To ensure that our high standards are maintained, Yoder Homes uses only licensed, insured craftsmen that have proven experience.

The Yoder Homes team is committed to delivering top-quality workmanship and installation through our on-the-job supervision. We understand the importance of completing your custom home or remodeling project in a timely manner and work hard to adhere to the established schedule. Upon completion of your project, you can rest assured that punch-list items will be resolved effectively and efficiently, as well as any open issues or concerns.

The Finish Line

Your “what if” is now a reality as we bring every detail together with intention and care. We conduct a comprehensive New Home Orientation (NHO) walk, coordinate final inspections and professional cleaning, and ensure your home is fully move-in ready. At closing, you receive a closing packet with care and warranty documentation, and we hand over the keys to your new Yoder home.
